'An Evening with Rough Truffles and Friends' is a charity event to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer as part of their Go Pink campaign - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (breakthrough.org.uk/gopink).
It is the sixth such event at the Queen's Head and is inspired by much-missed former choir member and Queen's Head regular Annette Young, who organised the first 4 fund-raising gigs.
Belper's Rough Truffles, led by Beth de Lange, will be singing a variety of songs from around the world, including numbers from South Africa, Georgia, France, Spain, America (and the UK of course!). There will be an opportunity for the audince to sing 'Oy oy oy oy' very loudly!! Support acts include various members of the choir who will be performing comedy songs, poetry, folk songs and guitar pieces. And there will be the world premier of a Belper Rap!
Sensational Belper performance poet Leo Swarvett will also be performing two sets during the evening.
Last but not least will be the legendary Naff Raffle, featuring prizes worth hundreds of pence. Some of the items up for grabs may or may not include a Des O'Connor LP, white patent stilletoes, crimpelene slacks, best-seller 'Making Your Own Fleece and Pile Fibre Clothing', and an (unsigned) photo of Alan Titchmarsh. What's not to like?!!
All money raised will be donated to Breakthrough Breast Cancer (registered charity number 1062636).
